The Avoidable Deaths Network (ADN) is delighted to announce the third Professor Peter Jackson Annual Lecture, which will take place at Makerere University, Uganda (Date to be announced).
This year, the lecture will be delivered by the esteemed Dr. Olive Kobusingye, a renowned surgeon and injury epidemiologist. Dr. Kobusingye was the Founding Executive Director of the Injury Control Centre at Makerere Medical School in Uganda and played a pivotal role in establishing the first hospital trauma registries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Her work, including the development of the Kampala Trauma Score, has had a lasting impact across Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). She is also recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the George Institute for Global Health and has served as a WHO Regional Advisor.
The Professor Peter Jackson Annual Lecture was inaugurated in 2023 during the launch of the Global Campaign: International Awareness Day for Avoidable Deaths (IAD4AD). It commemorates the life and legacy of Professor Peter Jackson, ADN’s Founding Advisor and cherished mentor of Dr. Nibedita Ray-Bennett. The lecture celebrates mentorship and encourages future mentors in the fields of disaster risk reduction, sustainable development, and avoidable deaths.
Join us as we honor the memory of Professor Peter Jackson and continue the vital conversation on reducing avoidable deaths worldwide.
